Give me silence, water, hope

I like silence and I like water.  In truth, I am really not quite happy living away from water.  I love the sea, rivers, lakes, even puddles.  I like rain.  Not all the time but I love the soaking showers that spring gives us, sudden fat wet summer rain, misty autumn rain, freezing winter rain and the chance, that teeny chance that you might see the perfect rainbow.  I have many rivers and volcanic lakes to choose from close to home and I have tried and tried with my myopic point and shoot camera technique to learn to photograph it.  I therefore present to you, quite proudly, my first good picture of moving water.  Movement  assigned by the weekly photo challenge is represented beautifully by many other entries here.

DSCF1656PS:  The line pinched for the title is  Pablo Neruda in ‘The Heights of Macho Picchu’ in which he painfully eloquently cries for the men who went before him, the ordinary men of the past and in so doing brings their voices, their lives before us to honour and respect as we ever should but so seldom do.  Today, I think of those in Nepal, their lives ravaged, ruined through no fault, no deed, no action of their own and wonder how long before we all move on and forget them again.  I urge you to remember and to give whatever you can to give them hope.

    • Thank you 🙂 It is very tricky and has become an obsession … I have got a vast back catalogue of failures to prove the point!

  4. Love the new look, nothing at all wrong with being half baked, life is an endless quest for what satisfies our individual souls.

Like the photo, I love water too and my quest is to paint it to my own satisfaction.
My niece has my painting of Loch Lomond that I painted for her wedding gift and which I was very almost nearly happy with, I will ask her to send me a photo

    • I would love to see that picture! I admire so much those who paint. And you are so right … life is, and should be, an endless pursuit of soul satisfaction 🙂

Lovely blog and I totally relate. We met each other by the Thames, and here we both are still by rivers, but they couldn’t be more different. I love mountain rivers and know I will miss refreshing dips…too many crocs and hippos here on the Zambezi…But unlike you I don’t have a penchant for rain, even though it is highly regarded as a blessing here in Africa, I fear my internal rain gauge still overfloweth from 36 years in the UK. Keep going with the photos, they are great.

    • Oh Kate! I am hungry for news of your life! We did indeed meet by Father Thames … he shaped so much of my life, and yours I think. But now the Zambezi flows through your life and I am agog – I will try and keep you agog with my own place that I do believe you would love (sans hippos which I would die to see) x

Capturing water is incredibly difficult – I know, I’ve spent hours ans hours trying to do the same. Love it, love the new look.

  7. So glad you like the new clothes, Arby and yes …. it is very hard but I think I may have sort of cracked it some of the time. Which is probaby as good as it gets 🙂

  8. You’ve captured the water perfectly. I opened the image in another screen and could almost hear the water rushing by, “sparkling” and “bickering” “bubbling” and “babbling”. As you can see your photo reminded me of Tennyson’s The Brook, which I have now just read after so many years; like visiting an old friend. What a wonderful poem it is. If you haven’t read it in a while revisit it and follow its journey to join “the brimming river”. Its most poignant lines, “For men my come and men may go, But I go on for ever” seem to speak to the tragedies of the world to which the brook is oblivious. Thanks for your exhortation to us to think of those in Nepal as I have also been doing every day. Finally, I love your new title; just great. One question – what about the other half 🙂

    April 30, 2015
    • Thank you for this and I will re-read The Brook … it has been too long. I too love the lines leading up to ‘I go on for ever’ … it is sadly as pertinent today as it was when he wrote it. So many painful things all around us still. I had to write something about Nepal. It is just unimaginable and I just can’t get it out of my mind. On a lighter note – I’m glad you like the title … hmmm the other half – well that could be a story, I feel 😉

  10. Splashingly good photograph…what precent was luck? Be honest now, it doesn’t make it any less a winner. Photography is right time, right place and a dose of confidence.

    May 26, 2015
    • Far more luck than judgement for me …. I like your definition of photography 🙂

      May 26, 2015
      • isn’t that percent luck what makes taking photographs such fun. Imagine how uninteresting it would be if they all came out perfect or at best just OK. theres not much difference between luck and expectation.

        May 27, 2015
      • Definitely – actually it’s luck and chance that make LIFE interesting in my opinion 🙂

        May 27, 2015
  11. Beautiful. I agree Luck is what it is all about!

    • Thank you. I truly believe it!
