Won’t you join the dance?
Out walking on Saturday after a fresh tumble of damp sticky snow, we came across this ravishing creature. It has the look of a crustacean feeling its way across the sand and brought to mind instantly the creations of Dutch artist Theo Jansen who creates fantastical kinetic sculptures which echo the most outlandish elements of beast, bird and bug. Life imitating art as the photo challenge requests this week …
PS: As for me, I was in Wonderland with Alice, listening intently and trying not to put a foot in the soup as the Mock Turtle tells the story of the beauteous Lobster Quadrille. But try as I did, I couldn’t find a partner for this shrimp – perhaps I should join the dance – after all, it is what gave me the title.

Rain can be so wonderful but when it just keeps on coming as I know it has been in France and England it is nothing short of depressing. Mind you – the forecast is for -23 with a windchill of another -11 tomorrow so I might be laughing on the other side of my frozen face!!
Gorgeous – it does resemble a giant squid reaching its frosty tentacles out, but frozen in time by the kiss of the Snow Queen…..

I’m definitely a V girl – Valley or Vivaldi it’s Four Seasons for me and Winter when she graces us with her frost and snow is pretty unbeatable.
Aesthetically winter is dramatic but I have problem with cold temperatures and I can’t look at snow and ice without a shiver and giving praise to something or other that I’m not out in it.
After walking the dog at lunchtime my face agrees with you – and we are set to drop to -23 tomorrow so I may be less than enamoured at that point 🙂
Bloody hell! It hasn’t gone below 15°C here all winter. I know that’s exceptional but…
I think it’s just the good old US of A proving that it can 😉

Great pic !!! Ice is my favorite winter scenery.. The trees glisten with the glassy coating.. Except for the damage it can cause, it’s a beautiful part of winter..
I wish I could have snapped a few pics while driving, but I couldn’t.. Northern Indiana was getting snow showers from lake effect and the wind was kicking up causing numerous snow devils.. They only lasted mere seconds but fun to watch the miniature snownados 😄
That would be a mighty hunk of seafood! Thankyou – ice and snow really do change the landscape in a magical way – I have some wonderful pictures of a drive home in France (right after we signed for the house in Marcoles actually …. more of that next week) – I was driving and Two Brains took the pictures. I like the word snownado …. it’s a keeper 🙂

Beautiful shrimp. Real ‘found art’! I have loved Theo Jansen’s work since seeing the sand creature thing a few years back on a documentary
Theo Jansen is a very recent find for me – he has an exhibition close to here and it’s fair to say I am blown away. Our shrimp was fleeting but magnificent 🙂

I actually did have a VERY happy Valentine’s day. And the snow is definitely here all of a sudden and the arctic temperatures – I thought I knew what cold is! Theo Jansen is a recent discovery for me too but he is really interesting and the exhibit he had at Peabody Essex was amazing – great to see all ages so engaged with art as there were several school aged and younger children the day we visited 🙂

I’m becoming obsessed with different kinds of snow here – we’ve had wet sticky snow (in that picture) light fluffy snow, snow so fine it’s like a sandstorm and the joyous delights (NOT) of ice rain since I’ve been here. The stuff falling out of the sky right now looks suspiciously like the latter LOL!!
Ice rain is the worse, I love the big fluffy flakes that stick to your eye lashes….LOL however its all beautiful in it own cold sort of way….k

I like your seeing a lobster or crustacean in the snow. I study clouds as they float along in the sky, Osyth. I forget, did you see my Disney parade post with a Dumbo cloud?
I tend to see the lacy look of a veil or white oleander flowers hanging down from an arch. It could be perfect for a wedding background. ♡
I did see the Dumbo cloud. It brought to mind that wonderful scene in Truly Madly Deeply when they are lying looking out of the window spotting things in the clouds … such a beautiful film. I love clouds, I love nature really – I love what you see and what you see beyond what you see 🙂
